Singer Equipment Co. and KaTom are among those who organized collections and deliveries of supplies.

No matter what industry one is in, business as usual has proven difficult amid recent natural disasters.

Following Hurricane Helene—a Category 4 storm that primarily impacted Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia—several foodservice equipment dealers jumped into action.

Here’s a bit on their efforts:
• KaTom Restaurant Supply, based in Kodak, Tenn., came together to donate water, aprons and gloves to those in need in its local communities. “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Helene, and we hope these communities can fully recover as soon as possible,” the company says.
• Singer Equipment Co., based in Elverson, Pa., looked to help North Carolina, donating chemicals, gloves and disposables to Ashe County.
• Alexander Food Equipment Group, based in Winston-Salem, N.C., filled a truck with 3,4000 pounds of items, including non-perishable foods, cleaning supplies, baby supplies and chewable Benadryl for those in Western North Carolina.

These efforts, coupled with contributions of organizations like Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen—which, along with local restaurant partners, brought food and water to Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee—and operators like Carolina-born Bojangles—which delivered bottled water and donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross for on-the-ground aid—mark a few ways the industry is chipping in.
