How to stop your BEST people from leaving.

Studies have shown that when an employee leaves, it is most often because of the manager.

1) Nothing burns an employee worse than a lack of recognition. You as a manager may not have enough budget to give your employees a raise they deserve. You do not have a budget limitation on ‘thank you’s and appreciation.

Besides recognition, your employees are expecting

2) career growth measures such as training and mentorship. If they have nothing to learn from you, it may be the time for them to look elsewhere.

3) clarity, direction and feedback so that they can excel at what they do. Most of the time when employee fails to deliver, it is the manager’s fault. Who gets blamed is a different story.

4) If they speak the truth, they should have nothing to fear.

5) 3 workers are working by the side of a road, breaking stones. A passerby notes that one of them is very unhappy, another is ok and the 3rd one is very happy. Curious as to what is going on, the passerby asks each one.

The first one, the unhappy one, says I am breaking stones. Hard work, hot.

The second one, contented one, says I am making a good living. I have a family to feed.

The third one, the happy one, says I am ……. building a temple.

Make sure you can tell your team what temple they are building.
